Who is Grinning?

What’s up buddies, hope you’re cool and adapting positively to the climatic changes around us……..the awful heat, heavy rain storms and lately, the humid and unbelievably dusty haze that has beclouded our otherwise clear atmosphere in this part of the world.

You know, when I first noticed the dusty haze a couple of days ago, I thought someone had just sited a quarry down town……or that some geniuses were experimenting their new ‘sand-skiing’ kits in the Sahara…..or perhaps that aliens were at last touring Africa. And I sort of hoped meteorologists on national TV would explain the phenomenon should my assumptions be wrong.

But then like a wildfire, the news of an impending acid rain alert [between the 20th and 28th of March] supposedly released by NASA spreads quickly. It was everywhere; calls, sms’, emails, and even newspaper clippings warning us to be careful …...check out how caring Nigerians can get when it comes to matters of this gravity!

Well I appreciate this alleged NASA alert…..just that basing it on an aberrant climate rakes my intelligence………and though I like to immediately shoot holes at it, I opt to regurgitate a rather cerebral talk that has been snaking its way up the G-agenda….lately.

I’m talking Green. Yes greening! Save in a few chemistry classes way back then in school, going green used to be something I hear on CNN, read on geography journals, and hear a few environmentalists gibber about………..all plain ooooooodd, if you ask me. But then, I listened in on a report one idle morning and thought “hey, what’s really this thing about going green?” and “How exactly does it tally with the scriptures?”

This inspired me to begin a lil’ research and today I bring you what I’ve been able to dig up. I hope you overlook the chemical language and learn something today………dig in!

The doctrine of going-green basically aims to reduce the amount of certain harmful gases released into the atmosphere per time. Ordinarily, these gases known as green house gases aren’t so harmful until they build up in the clouds. When they do, they cause excessive radiation from the sun to reach the earth, resulting in an unprecedented rise in global temperatures. The concern is that if unchecked, this global warming could harm the environment and ultimately, human health. Chief of these gases are water vapour (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Others are methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, & chlorofluorocarbons.

Research by EPAs – environmental protection agencies – has identified major global warming-contributing sectors as industrial, transportation, residential, commercial and the agricultural sectors. And world over, efforts are been made to phase out materials and activities with high GWP – Global Warming Potential. For instance, whilst a bunch of enthusiasts are gussying up green-living as the new in-thing; auto makers are currently ‘testing’ battery powered engines believed to be the solution to toppling oil prices and air pollution from the traditional gasoline engines; and telecom-gadget manufacturers are working on scrapping paper manuals for electronic in-phone manuals (less use of paper), designing display lights to use less energy, and making low-power chargers.

Fantastic job I must say……..though between you and i it seems to me more like much ado about nothing.

We’re told our dear earth would be an average of 33 degrees colder than it currently is, if these gases weren’t there! The question is, would the world have been a better place?

Hard as we may try, truth is we cannot save the earth from its ultimate destiny. Not even with all the green man can ever conceive. My bible tells me this world and everything therein will eventually be destroyed …… the sky will be rolled up like a scroll and the earth will burn up.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless [2 pet 3:1-14]

Knowing this dearly beloved, wouldn’t it be preposterous to hinge our hope on a green planet? Or in world peace or peace in the Middle East, the stock market, some technology, doctors and medicines (magic pills), healthy eating, real estate, or even politics?

The eternal hope of every believer in Christ is the Rapture which by all means is an important part of our Christian race. It is not escapism or wishful thinking but an event that surely must take place at the end of time.

For the grace of God that brings Salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ [Titus 2:11-13]

What then what am I trying to say? Save what can be saved now; yourself!

Let's save ourselves by securing a place in Heaven with Jesus. All it takes is believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and genuinely repenting from sins.

For last words on this post, I leave you with the following five safe-living tips;

Light on. As gross darkness gradually covers the earth, turn your spiritual lights on for security and for efficient evangelism. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven [Matt 5:16]

Never idle yourself – else you’ll grow cold and get spewed out of His mouth. Keep in touch with God’s people and do with urgency, the work unto which He calls you.

Power on. More than ever before, the kingdom of God suffers violence and ONLY the violent takes it by force. To triumph in your faith fight…..…you necessarily need to power on with the whole armour of God in Ephesians 6:10-18

Make decisions along eternal lines – live with eternity in mind. As a soldier of Christ warring for eternal life, be not entangled with the affairs of this world [2 Tim 2:4]. Christians with hope in eternity are easily known by the way they live; they’re not covetous; they’re sober and vigilant, given to prayers; actively evangelizing; and eagerly awaiting the rapture.

Spread the word. [2 Tim 4:2] You could start by emailing this post to your friends and family………or by sharing some more SAVE YOURSELF tips with us……spread the word and save a life.

Blessed is the man that trusts in the lord and whose hope the lord is; he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not suffer in the year of drought, neither shall it cease from yielding fruit [Jeremiah 17:7 – 8]

hmm...…seemingly....but considering the fact that we're in a dispensation of grace.......we never can tell how far our efforts may go........besides it appears the great commission just obligates us to play our part planting the seeds......God takes it from there right?

hey, great post...."quite a fantastic job i must say" particularly with the research on greening and then the boldness to say it isn't the solution...

Personally, i appreciate greening but even more, i think i'm going to begin grinning.....thanks to you!
